Ingredients

For the Steak

  • 4 steak cuts (ribeye, sirloin, or your preferred cut)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons oil or butter (for cooking)

For the Mushroom Brown Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of thyme or rosemary (optional)

Instructions

1. Season the Steak

Season both sides of the steaks with salt, black pepper, and paprika.

2. Sear the Steak

Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over high heat.

Add the steaks and cook for 2–3 minutes per side (depending on thickness) until nicely browned.

Remove the steaks from the skillet and allow them to rest while preparing the sauce.

3. Cook the Mushrooms

In the same skillet, add butter and sliced mushrooms.

Cook for several minutes until the mushrooms become golden brown and release their moisture.

4. Make the Brown Sauce

Add the flour and stir for about 1 minute until lightly browned.

Gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking continuously to create a smooth sauce.

Add soy sauce, black pepper, and thyme or rosemary if using.

Let the sauce simmer until it thickens into a rich gravy.

5. Finish the Dish

Return the steaks to the skillet and spoon the mushroom sauce over them.

Let them cook in the sauce for about 1 minute to absorb the flavor.

6. Serve

Serve hot with mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, or steamed vegetables.

💡 Chef’s Tip

For extra restaurant-style flavor, add a small splash of Worcestershire sauce or a knob of butter to the sauce before serving.
