Ingredients
For the Meatballs
- 2 lb (1 kg) ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (or 2 slices finely crumbled sandwich bread)
- 1 small onion, finely minced
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 egg
- ½ cup milk
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tsp mixed meat seasoning
- Pinch of nutmeg
For the Creamy White Sauce
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp mustard (optional, for extra flavor)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the meatballs
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, and seasonings. Mix gently until well combined. Shape into medium-sized balls.
2. Brown the meatballs
Heat butter or oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the meatballs, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
3. Make the creamy white sauce
In the same skillet, melt butter. Add flour and stir continuously for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Add heavy cream and simmer until the sauce thickens. Stir in mustard if using.
4. Finish the dish
Return the meatballs to the sauce and simmer for 10–15 minutes until fully coated and infused with flavor.
5. Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm with rice, pasta, or mashed potatoes.
