Spaghetti with Meatballs in Rich Tomato Sauce

A comforting family favorite made with tender homemade meatballs simmered in a flavorful tomato sauce and served over perfectly cooked pasta. This hearty dish is simple, satisfying, and perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

  • 2 lb (1 kg) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely grated and squeezed dry
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp all-spice or meat seasoning
  • Pinch paprika (optional)

For the Pasta & Sauce:

  • 1 lb (500 g) spaghetti or penne pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups tomato puree or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Pinch dried oregano or basil (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Meatballs

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, grated onion, breadcrumbs, and seasonings. Mix well and shape into small meatballs.

2️⃣ Brown the Meatballs

Heat a little oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the meatballs until golden on all sides. They do not need to cook through completely. Remove and set aside.

3️⃣ Make the Tomato Sauce

In the same pan, sauté garlic for a few seconds until fragrant.

Add tomato puree, tomato paste, sugar, and seasonings.

Simmer for about 5 minutes.

Return the meatballs to the sauce and simmer for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.

4️⃣ Cook the Pasta

Boil pasta in salted water according to package directions. Drain well.

5️⃣ Serve

Place pasta on a serving plate, spoon the meatballs and sauce over the top, and garnish with fresh parsley.
